smart summon parking garage update

Elon Musk has announced an upcoming Smart Summon update that’ll help Tesla owners save battery power. The new software version 2025.32 introduces optimization features designed to reduce unnecessary energy drain from Summon Standby, which keeps the vehicle’s computing systems partially active for quick feature activation.

The update automatically pauses Summon Standby between midnight and 6 a.m. based on usage patterns. This means the vehicle’s systems can rest during typical sleeping hours when owners aren’t using the feature. If a vehicle stays parked for more than 24 hours, Summon Standby disables automatically, which helps conserve energy during long-term parking situations.

Smart Summon is Tesla’s advanced parking feature that guides vehicles through complex environments and parking spaces while maneuvering around obstacles. Unlike basic Dumb Summon, which only moves vehicles straight forward and backward, Smart Summon can steer around corners and tight parking spots. The feature moves vehicles to a phone’s GPS location or user-selected destination within parking lots. Smart Summon requires continuous monitoring of the vehicle and surroundings to ensure safe operation.

Operating Smart Summon requires specific conditions. The phone must stay within 279 feet of the vehicle for standard operation. If the vehicle exceeds 328 feet from the connected phone, Smart Summon automatically pauses. The vehicle’s speed is limited to 3 mph when operating beyond 279 feet.

Before using Smart Summon, vehicle cameras need full calibration. The vehicle must be in Park, not charging, with all doors and trunks closed. Users also need the latest Tesla mobile app version with cellular service and GPS enabled on their phone. Temperature extremes can also affect the performance of charging hardware and related vehicle systems during operation.

Software version 2025.32.3 introduces an additional feature called Low Power Mode. This mode disables high-drain features including Smart Summon, Sentry Mode, and Cabin Overheat Protection. These power-saving measures reflect Tesla’s strategy to improve energy efficiency across its vehicle fleet.

The updates seek to balance user convenience with battery conservation. Owners won’t need to activate these features manually—the system handles power management automatically. This approach lets drivers enjoy Smart Summon’s capabilities while reducing phantom battery drain from standby systems.
