Mexico’s Jalisco state police rolled out three Tesla Cybertrucks onto their streets in May 2025, marking a bold move ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The state government spent 988 million pesos, about $60 million, on security improvements that included these futuristic vehicles.
The three electric pickup trucks joined a larger fleet expansion of over 690 vehicles. Officials leased the Cybertrucks for 36 months after a public bidding process. They’ll serve as mobile intelligence units equipped with cutting-edge technology for surveillance operations across Jalisco’s 12 regions. The vehicles connect to state databases to provide officers with instant access to critical information during operations.

These vehicles aren’t just for show. Police will use them for searches, arrests, and criminal containment activities throughout the state. The timing isn’t random either. Mexico will co-host the 2026 World Cup with the United States and Canada, expecting more than 5 million international visitors. The Cybertrucks will patrol key areas during the tournament.
Governor Pablo Lemus defended the purchase, saying the state needs modern, technology-equipped patrol units. He emphasized that boosting safety standards before the World Cup requires this type of investment. The government views these innovative vehicles as essential for handling the massive security demands of an international event.
Jalisco isn’t alone in choosing Cybertrucks for law enforcement. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police already operates 10 of these vehicles for patrol and SWAT operations. Unplugged Performance even developed the first Cybertruck specifically designed for police duty. This trend shows Tesla’s polarizing pickup gaining acceptance in police departments worldwide.
The all-electric powertrain offers operational cost advantages compared to traditional patrol vehicles. Tesla’s Armor Package provides improved off-road performance and durability features that support demanding law enforcement applications. The vehicles’ advanced technology integration makes them particularly suitable for mobile intelligence operations. The Cybertrucks can also utilize Tesla’s Sentry Mode to create comprehensive surveillance coverage during stationary monitoring operations.
While some residents question spending millions on flashy vehicles, officials maintain they’re necessary investments. The Cybertrucks represent the most advanced additions to Jalisco’s patrol fleet.
