tesla model 3 516 mile

Tesla’s expanding its popular Model 3 and Model Y lineup with new variants that promise better range and features. The company’s introducing a Model 3+ that can travel 516 miles on a single charge, while adding a six-seat Model Y L to its selection.

The new Model 3+ represents a major jump from the current Long Range model‘s 363-mile range. Tesla’s standard Model 3 Long Range uses a rear-wheel drive system with 286 to 295 horsepower and 309 to 322 pound-feet of torque. It’s powered by a single electric motor and a 79.7 kilowatt-hour battery pack.

Model 3+ delivers 516-mile range, a massive leap from the current Long Range’s 363 miles.

Current Model 3 variants include Standard Range, Long Range rear-wheel drive, Long Range all-wheel drive, and Performance versions. The Performance model delivers quicker acceleration but reduces range to about 297 miles. All models seat five passengers and use a single-speed transmission. The Performance version achieves 0-60 mph in just 2.8 seconds with its 510 horsepower all-wheel-drive system.

The Long Range rear-wheel drive Model 3 starts at $42,490 to $44,130, depending on the source. Buyers might qualify for federal tax credits up to $7,725 based on their income. The EPA rates the Long Range model at 137 miles per gallon equivalent combined, with 145 MPGe in the city and 128 MPGe on the highway.

Tesla’s Model 3 measures 185.8 inches long with a 113.2-inch wheelbase. It’s 72.8 inches wide and 56.7 inches tall. The car weighs between 3,817 and 3,891 pounds and provides 24.1 cubic feet of cargo space. The front seats offer 42.7 inches of leg room while rear passengers get 34.5 inches.

Charging takes about 11.7 hours at home using a 240-volt outlet. The car can also use DC fast-charging stations that deliver up to 250 kilowatts of power for quicker charging. Tesla uses the North American Charging Standard port. Owners can significantly reduce charging time by using Tesla Superchargers, which can complete a full charge in approximately 1.5 hours.

The Model Y L’s six-seat configuration would differ from Tesla’s current five-seat models. This new variant could appeal to families needing extra seating capacity.

Both new models would likely use Tesla’s permanent-magnet synchronous motor technology and touchscreen control system found in current vehicles.
