tesla car wash warning

Tesla vehicles now come with a specialized Car Wash Mode that protects the car during automatic washes. The feature includes a new warning system that alerts drivers about any open windows before entering a car wash.

Tesla’s Car Wash Mode automatically secures windows and alerts drivers to potential issues before entering automatic washes.

When drivers activate Car Wash Mode through the touchscreen interface, they’ll see a visual checklist. Green indicators show when areas are properly secured, while red indicators highlight any problems. If a window or door isn’t closed, an error message appears on the screen. The system won’t let drivers proceed until they’ve fixed these issues.

The mode automatically closes all windows and locks the charge port door. It also disables features that could cause problems during washing. The windshield wipers won’t activate, even if water hits the sensors. Sentry Mode turns off to save battery power and prevent false security alerts. The parking assist system stops making noise that could interrupt the cleaning process.

Climate control switches to recirculation mode to keep moisture from entering the car. The trunk and frunk lock to prevent water from getting inside. On Model X vehicles, the automatic doors won’t operate during the wash. The system also increases resistance on automatic flush door handles to prevent brushes from catching them.

Drivers can access Car Wash Mode by going to Car Controls, then Services on the touchscreen. The mode also activates Free Roll Mode, allowing the vehicle to move freely through automated car wash systems. After the wash, they must press the “Exit” button to return to normal operation. If the car goes faster than 10 mph, the mode automatically shuts off. Drivers need to manually turn it back on if they want to use it again.

The feature works on most Tesla models made after 2018. This includes Model 3, Model Y, and redesigned Model S and Model X vehicles. It helps prevent water damage that could void warranties and reduces wear on sensors from false triggers during high-pressure washes. The mode also saves energy by turning off unnecessary systems.

This safety feature guarantees Tesla owners can use automatic car washes without worrying about damage to their vehicles. The new warning system makes it easier to spot potential problems before they cause expensive repairs.
