cybertruck achieves top safety

How safe is the 2025 Tesla Cybertruck? According to recent safety tests, it’s extremely safe. The vehicle earned a five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It also received multiple “Good” ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which typically performs rigorous crash testing.

The 2025 Tesla Cybertruck earned a five-star NHTSA rating and multiple “Good” ratings from IIHS crash testing, demonstrating extreme safety.

In moderate overlap crash tests carried out at 40 mph, the Cybertruck achieved a “Good” overall evaluation. This test applies to models built after April 2025. The driver’s dummy received well-protected status during the collision. The vehicle’s safety cage structure was rated “Good” in side impact testing. Structural integrity remained strong across all testing protocols. The front underbody structure was specifically enhanced to improve safety performance in these moderate overlap scenarios.

Driver protection proved solid in crash scenarios. Head and neck injury measures received “Good” ratings in side impact tests. The head injury criterion measured at 22 for drivers, which is considered safe. Neck tension stayed low at 0.7 kN during impact testing. Tesla engineers implemented redesigned footwell areas to strengthen driver compartment protection.

Rear passengers also showed strong protection. Rear occupants achieved “Good” ratings for head, neck, torso, and pelvis protection. The head injury criterion measured at 48 for rear passengers. Rear passenger neck compression stayed minimal at 0.6 kN during testing.

The Cybertruck’s crash avoidance system impressed testers. The vehicle successfully avoided collisions in crossing child daytime tests at both 12 mph and 25 mph. Most significantly, the Cybertruck avoided every crash scenario in IIHS pedestrian testing. The pedestrian front crash prevention system received a “Good” rating. This outperformed the Ford F-150 Lightning in all pedestrian scenarios tested.

However, not everything scored perfectly. The Cybertruck’s headlights received a “Poor” rating from IIHS. The F-150 Lightning’s headlights scored “Acceptable,” performing better in this category.
