Tesla’s electric Model Y has officially arrived on Indian roads, with customer shipments beginning on September 29, 2025. This marks a quick turnaround for the company, which launched the vehicle in India just two months earlier on July 15, 2025.
Tesla’s Model Y begins customer deliveries in India just two months after its July 2025 launch, marking the company’s market entry.
The Model Y represents Tesla’s first car offering in the Indian market. The company is starting shipments in major cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram, and Pune. Customers nationwide can place orders through Tesla’s Indian website, though initial shipments focus on these metro areas.
Tesla offers two variants for Indian buyers. The Standard Range version costs ₹59.89 lakh and features rear-wheel drive with a 62.5kWh battery that provides 500km of range. The Long Range variant is priced at ₹67.89 lakh and includes an 84kWh battery providing 622km of range. Both versions accelerate from 0-100kmph in 5.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 201kmph with 295 bhp. Buyers can add Full Self-Driving capability for an additional ₹6 lakh.
Every new owner receives a complimentary wall connector for charging at home or work. Tesla’s customer service includes doorstep demonstrations and pre-shipment vehicle preparation. The launch marks a significant milestone in India’s electric mobility journey.
The company has established charging stations in key locations. Mumbai’s BKC station features four V4 Superchargers and four Destination Chargers, while Delhi’s Aerocity location has four V4 Superchargers and three Destination Chargers. The 250kW Superchargers can add 267km of range in just 15 minutes. The car’s routing system helps drivers locate chargers and automatically prepares the battery when heading to charging stations.
Safety features include seven airbags and advanced driver assistance technology with Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning. The Model Y comes equipped with Autopilot as standard, which has demonstrated crashes occurring every 7.44 million miles with the system installed. A 15.4-inch touchscreen serves as the main control interface. Tesla models have consistently maintained five-star safety ratings, demonstrating the company’s commitment to passenger protection across all units.
Market response has been strong, with over 600 bookings recorded in the first few months. The Model Y was the world’s best-selling electric vehicle in both 2023 and 2024.
Tesla’s pricing positions it against competitors like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, BMW iX1, and BYD Sealion 7 in India’s premium electric vehicle segment.
