fsd transfer extended into 2025

Extending its popular transfer program into late 2025, Tesla is allowing owners to move their Full Self-Driving package to a new vehicle without paying the $8,000 fee again. The company announced the limited-time program starting April 24, 2025, and has now extended it through Q4 2025 for owners in North America, Europe, and the Middle East. New vehicle deliveries made between June 2-30, 2025, qualify for the June eligibility window.

Tesla extends its Full Self-Driving transfer program through Q4 2025, allowing owners to move the $8,000 package to new vehicles at no additional cost.

What’s notable is that Tesla originally introduced this transfer option as a “one-time amnesty” during Q3 2023. CEO Elon Musk repeatedly said the extensions would be temporary and final. Yet the program has quietly extended every few months since then, often timed with quarterly delivery pushes. It’s now been reintroduced multiple times, despite initial descriptions as a non-repeatable promotion. Tesla’s public statements have consistently described such transfer allowances as limited-time or conditional, yet the pattern of recurring extensions contradicts these characterizations.

The program helps owners preserve their FSD investment when upgrading to a new Tesla. FSD currently costs $8,000 in the U.S. and $11,000 in Canada. Previously, the price reached as high as $15,000 in the U.S. and $21,000 in Canada. By allowing transfers, Tesla helps loyal customers avoid repurchasing the package on their next vehicle. Alternatively, owners can opt for a monthly subscription at $199 rather than purchasing FSD outright.

To use the transfer option, owners must register both vehicles under the same Tesla account. They’ll need to skip selecting FSD when ordering their new vehicle. The transfer option appears during setup in the Tesla app at step 4 of 9. Owners with multiple FSD vehicles can choose which one to transfer from using the vehicle identification number.

There are some limitations. The FSD package must’ve been paid in full, not purchased as a subscription. Owners must keep their previous vehicle for at least 48 hours after the new vehicle’s delivery. The transfer only works when buying a new Tesla, not used ones. When transferred, the original vehicle reverts to basic Autopilot functionality.

The program applies to all Tesla models, including the Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X, and Cybertruck. While the transfer feature works within Tesla’s app at no additional cost, it bears emphasizing that this “limited-time” program has now persisted through multiple extensions.
