tesla raises model 3 prices

Tesla’s got a new windshield protection plan for Model 3 and Model Y owners. The company quietly launched the service in June 2025, charging $12 per month for coverage. This makes it the cheapest option among Tesla’s windshield protection services. Model S owners pay $15 monthly, while Model X owners pay $23 monthly. Cybertruck wasn’t included in the program because replacement costs exceed $2,300.

Here’s what the plan covers. Owners get one free front windshield replacement every 12 months. They also get unlimited repairs for chips and minor cracks at no extra cost. If someone needs another replacement beyond the annual limit, they’ll pay a $100 co-pay. The plan uses Tesla’s original equipment manufacturer glass and includes necessary Autopilot camera recalibrations after replacement. This specialized insurance policy functions separately from Tesla’s Extended Service Agreement, providing dedicated windshield protection.

The pricing breaks down to $144 yearly. That matters because regular windshield replacements typically cost between $500 and $1,000 or more. This means owners break even if they need a replacement every three to four years. The plan also helps people avoid standard insurance claims that might raise their premiums over time. Vehicle-specific kits are available for seamless installation without requiring cutting directly to the glass edge.

There’s an important catch though. People must enroll within 30 days of their vehicle delivery date. They can’t sign up after that window closes. If someone pays for a replacement first, they get another 30-day window to enroll. Complimentary vehicle inspections starting in July 2025 will help expand eligibility for those who may have missed the initial enrollment period.

Tesla’s planning to launch a complimentary vehicle inspection pathway in July 2025, but those strict time limits still apply. The plan currently only works in the United States. Tesla announced it’s coming to Canada and Mexico next, but hasn’t given a specific timeline. European owners will have to wait for future expansion announcements.

The coverage has limits. It only covers the front windshield, not rear or side windows. Tesla gets to decide which damage types qualify for coverage. Some damage might be considered ineligible.

The complete list of exclusions and limitations appears in the official terms on Tesla’s support website.
