Tesla’s latest software update, version 2025.26.100, rolled out to vehicles on August 16-17 with major security upgrades and new entertainment features. The update brings several improvements to Tesla’s fleet while quietly removing one diagnostic tool that’s sparked debate among owners.
The security enhancements include a new Lock Alert feature that sends real-time notifications when someone accesses the vehicle. These alerts can be received through the Tesla mobile app or displayed directly in-car, helping to prevent unauthorized access and reduce theft risks. Tesla’s also improved mobile access for better remote control. For Cybertruck owners, there’s now a Tow Limit Exceeded detection system that prevents overloading damage.
The Car Wash Mode got smarter too—it’ll warn drivers if windows open during a wash cycle.
Entertainment features got an uplift with Light Sync, which makes ambient lighting dance to music. Available on newer Model 3, Model Y, 2026 Model S/X, and Cybertruck, the feature offers two modes. Drivers can choose beat synchronization or color matching based on album artwork. The “Rave Cave” mode creates a light show while the car’s parked. Users can access these settings through the Toybox menu.
Tesla’s also testing Grok AI assistant, but it’s only available in the United States. Owners need Premium Connectivity and an AMD Ryzen Infotainment system to use it. The AI appears as colorful waves when activated through the microphone button. However, it can’t control vehicle functions like heating or routing. Canadian Tesla owners won’t get access anytime soon.
Service Mode Plus received significant improvements. The new Vehicle Functions panel shows all systems and their current status. Technicians can now diagnose front seat issues in Model 3 and Model Y. There’s also a Thermal Control Components panel with 3D views of heat pumps, radiators, and other parts.
Here’s what’s controversial: Tesla removed the Battery Health Test feature. This tool let owners check their battery’s energy retention over time. The removal’s caused plenty of discussion online. Some think Tesla’s consolidating diagnostics internally. Others believe the company’s confident enough in its battery technology that public monitoring isn’t necessary.
The update also simplified the onboarding process for new owners and added individual audio presets for customized sound settings. Drivers can create up to four audio presets under Settings > Audio with equalizer profiles for Spoken Word, Pop, Rock, and other genres.
