tesla s 30 day fsd trial

Tesla’s offering a 30-day free trial of its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) feature to both new and existing vehicle owners. The company estimates the trial’s value at $99, though owners can’t transfer it to others or exchange it for cash. Tesla notes that the offer is time-limited and could change or end at any time.

The trial’s available to owners of Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y, and Cybertruck vehicles. However, not all vehicles qualify. Only cars equipped with Hardware 4 (HW4) or AI4 computer systems can participate. Tesla says approximately 1.5 million HW4 vehicles are eligible for this promotion. Vehicles with Hardware 3 won’t be included in this trial but may receive a future version called FSD 14 Lite instead.

To join the trial, vehicles need to run at least software version 12.3. The latest promotion focuses on Full Self-Driving (Supervised) 14.2 software. This version handles both common driving situations and unusual edge cases. Tesla’s demonstrated that version 14 can operate without any driver interventions in certain conditions.

During the 30-day trial, owners can access several features. Speed Profiles let drivers choose options like Mad Max and Sloth Mode. The Arrival Options feature enables self-parking capabilities. The software also provides advanced driver-assist features and improved pathfinding and decision-making abilities. The trial aims to increase FSD exposure among vehicle owners who may not have previously considered purchasing the subscription.

The trial’s currently available in North American territories, including the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. There’s no indication that Tesla plans to expand this specific trial offer globally.

Tesla views this giveaway as a marketing strategy. The company hopes to show vehicle owners what Full Self-Driving can do. For owners who don’t currently subscribe to FSD, this trial offers a chance to experience autonomous driving features firsthand. Despite the advanced capabilities, drivers remain liable for accidents and must maintain human supervision at all times during operation.

The limited 30-day window creates urgency for people to test the system and make a decision about purchasing the full subscription. Tesla’s goal is to convert trial users into paying Full Self-Driving subscribers after the free period ends.
