tesla s invasive data collection

Tesla’s latest software update, version 2025.38, is now widely available to electric vehicles around the world. About 40% of Tesla cars globally have already received the update. Older Model 3, Model S, and Model X vehicles can download it now, though some European regions got it first. However, cars running the newest FSD version 14 can’t access this update yet.

The 2025.38 update includes features that track driver behavior in new ways. Street names now appear in dashcam event details, making it easier to identify exactly where incidents occur. The Mobile Dashcam Viewer streams footage in higher resolution, giving drivers clearer video of their surroundings. This requires Tesla App version 4.49.5 or newer. These improvements make reviewing recordings simpler for insurance claims or trip analysis, but they also mean Tesla’s system is capturing more location data than before. The Frontal Airbag System Enhancement uses Tesla Vision technology to improve crash protection across compatible vehicles.

Routing features have expanded considerably. The new 3D Buildings feature displays detailed cityscapes in map view, letting drivers see their surroundings in three dimensions. A new Satellite View option provides another visual viewpoint. Both features require Premium Connectivity, which means Tesla collects subscription data about where owners travel and what features they use.

The scroll wheel now has new press-and-hold shortcuts that give quicker access to functions like Bioweapon Defense Mode toggle, Navigation Mute, and Music Light Sync. Drivers can also open the glovebox and save dashcam footage through these shortcuts.

Entertainment options have improved too. Apple Music now shows organized playlists with folders, and a Recently Played shelf displays extended listening history. Tron Mode, a light cycle game, is now available across all AMD Ryzen vehicles.

Security features received updates as well. A new Driver Profile setting requires phone key verification before selecting a profile. This applies to newer vehicles but not legacy Model S and Model X cars. Tesla’s enhanced monitoring systems use torque sensors and cameras to track driver attention and behavior patterns continuously.

Tesla’s Grok artificial intelligence assistant is available as a beta feature, offering multiple voice and personality options through the App Launcher or steering wheel voice button. These new capabilities show how deeply Tesla’s software now integrates into daily driving and personal preferences.
