Tesla’s Supercharger network isn’t just for Tesla owners anymore. Major car companies have struck deals to let their electric vehicles use Tesla’s charging stations across the country. This shift marks a big change in how Americans charge their electric cars.
Ford led the way. Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning owners already have adapters that let them plug into Tesla Superchargers. Rivian’s R1S and R1T drivers can do the same. GM, Mercedes-Benz, Polestar, and Volvo owners can buy adapters to access the network too.
Ford blazed the trail, giving Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning drivers adapter access to Tesla’s charging network.
More brands are joining soon. Porsche‘s Taycan and Macan Electric models will connect to Superchargers starting September 9, 2025. Audi‘s Q6 e-tron, A6 Sportback e-tron, and e-tron GT models will also work with Tesla’s chargers. BMW will begin NACS adoption in early 2025 and plans to provide adapters for existing electric vehicles. Acura, Mini, and Rolls-Royce are planning to offer NACS adapters or integrate NACS ports into future models.
The adapters aren’t always free. Porsche gives them to existing owners who reserve through their app. But owners of 2024 and older Porsche models must pay $185 at dealerships or online. Audi includes branded adapters with newer 2025 models. Starting in 2026, new Porsche vehicles will come with free adapters.
Tesla opened its North American Charging Standard to other companies, and they’re responding quickly. Toyota’s electric models will have NACS charge ports built in starting in 2025. Volkswagen’s 2025 models will too. Some new Hyundai and Kia EVs already have NACS outlets built right in.
The Volkswagen Group announced NACS compatibility for Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and Scout Motors in December 2023. Toyota made agreements for nationwide Supercharger access. Stellantis executives said they’re considering adopting Tesla’s charge port for brands like Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Maserati, and Ram.
Using these chargers isn’t simple yet. Porsche drivers must use Tesla’s app at first. Porsche plans to enable charging through its own app soon. Both Porsche and Audi are creating software updates to show Tesla Superchargers in their wayfinding systems.
